Roasted Grape Toast Is a Sweet and Savory Twist on Healthy Eating

Healthy eating is great because you can experiment with different ingredients and add new flavors you never thought you’d love. Today, we offer you a modern twist on classic toast. Have you ever thought about pairing it with something sweet? Roasted grapes go perfectly with any savory food and are a sneaky way to get some extra fruit into your diet.

Tips and Tricks

When roasting grapes, make sure to take them out of the oven before they get too soft. The skin should be bright in color and split when they’re in contact with the baking sheet. Keep an eye on them, and don’t let them get too squishy.

This recipe doesn’t take too long, and you probably already have the ingredients at home. This recipe is a great way to see how healthy eating doesn’t need to be expensive or difficult.

How to Make It

Ingredients:

  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper
  • 4 thyme sprigs, plus fresh thyme leaves for garnish
  • 1 1/2 cups seedless red grapes
  • 1/4 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons plus 1 teaspoon olive oil, divided
  • 1/3 cup chopped walnuts
  • 4 sourdough bread slices, cut in half crosswise
  • 1 cup labneh
  • Flaky sea salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste

Directions:

  1. Start by mixing honey, crushed red pepper, and thyme sprigs. You can also add some more red pepper to taste. Cook the mixture over medium heat and stir occasionally. Once the honey becomes bubbly, remove it from the stove and get rid of the thyme sprigs.
  2. Preheat your oven to 350°F and put the racks in the upper third and lower third positions. Mix the grapes, sugar, and one teaspoon of oil on a rimmed baking sheet. Push the mixture to one side of the pan and add the walnuts to the other side.
  3. Place the bread slices on another baking sheet and brush the rest of the oil on top. The walnuts and grapes must go on the upper rack, while the bread must go on the lower one. Once everything is nicely toasted, take it all out. Once the grapes are cooled completely, cut them in half.
  4. To make the snack, spread labneh over your toast and arrange the grapes and walnuts on top. Add some spicy honey for that extra sweetness and thyme leaves. You can also add some sea salt and black pepper to taste.
